How to say 'Thank You' in English



Thanksgiving is just around the corner, a national holiday celebrated in the United States annually to give thanks for the harvest and other blessings in our lives. With this holiday coming up, it’s important to remember and understand how we can give thanks to people in our lives. There are several ways thank you can be said in English, as they each have their own meaning and circumstances. Below is a list of a few ways to say thank you.


  • “Thank you for..”


This is the most common form of saying thank you to someone. It is usually followed by a verb or a noun. For example:


1) Thank you for helping me!

2) Thank you for the food.


  • “Thanks in advance..”


This is used when you are asking for something from someone ahead of time and you want to thank them before. This is mostly used in emails and other forms of written communication.


  • “I really appreciate it..”


This is used to express your gratitude and appreciation towards someone doing something for you. You can add a more specific reason to the end of the thank you if you wish.


  • “I can’t thank you enough.


This is used when someone does something really major for you and you want express how much it means to you. This can be used when someone helps you out of a very big problem or situation you had.


  • “I owe you one.”

This form of thank you is used when someone does a favor for you and you want to return the favor to them as thanks. You would help them out when they need it, or you would thank them through an action such as taking them out for food.
